As the founder, president, and CEO of Tri-National Inc., Robert Rogulic supports the professional development and advocacy efforts of truckload carriers. Like many professionals in the world of logistics, Robert Rogulic is a member of the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA), which advocates on behalf of truckload carriers and offers education and development opportunities to those in the field.
One major issue in trucking that TCA hopes to address is the shortage of truck drivers. Since the end of the Great Recession, the number of truckers has decreased by approximately 35,000 and stands to lose as many as 240,000 by 2022.
The turnover rate for trucking is also high, with 97 percent of truck drivers quitting rather than turning it into a career. At present, most carriers cannot find enough drivers to meet government regulations.
To combat these changes, many carrier companies have begun offering incentives and covering the cost of licensure for drivers. While these measures have helped somewhat, they have not attracted sufficient numbers of new drivers. TCA hopes to bring carriers together for solutions to this problem at its national conferences.
