The North American Waterfowl Management Plan

Waterfowl is a term used to classify birds usually found in the water, like ducks, swans, and geese. These birds can swim easily and have webbed feet. In the late 1900s, the number of waterfowl found was at an all-time low. In 1986, the United States and Canada came together to do something about it. The countries came up with the North American Waterfowl management plan to improve their numbers by protecting, restoring, and enhancing their habitats. In 1994, Mexico signed on to the plan.

The plan has grown over the years, and the signatories have revised it, but the original direction is still in place. In 2018, the U.S, Canada, and Mexico signed the latest update. Several partnerships enable the plan to succeed. The Migratory Bird Joint Ventures is a collaboration of different organizations, non-profits, people, government bodies, and so on who are interested in protecting and preserving wildlife habitats. These ventures are crucial in implementing the plans in their different regions.
